What is coronavirus?

    Coronaviruses are part of a large family of viruses, found in both animals and humans. This virus infects humans, causing various diseases, from the common cold to severe respiratory diseases, such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

     The "new" coronavirus (CoV) is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans. This new type of coronavirus, called 2019-nCoV, was not previously detected before the outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019

How is the virus spread?

     The new Coronavirus is a respiratory virus that spreads primarily through contact with an infected person by inhaling particles from coughs, sneezes, saliva drops, nasal secretions. Good respiratory hygiene is important. For example, when sneezing or coughing, bring your mouth to the bottom of your elbow, or use the towels you immediately dispose of in the trash. Wash your hands as often as possible and use alcohol-based antibacterial gels.

     Description Coronavirus

The "new" coronavirus (CoV) is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans. This new type of coronavirus, called 2019-nCoV, was not previously detected before the outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019

     Is the new type of virus identical to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome?

Not. 2019-nCoV comes from the same family of viruses as SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), but is not the same virus

     How dangerous is it?

As with other respiratory diseases, 2019-nCoV infection can cause mild symptoms, including runny nose, sore throat, cough and fever. It can be more severe in some people and can lead to pneumonia or shortness of breath. Older people, those with medical conditions (diabetes, heart) are more vulnerable.

     Who is prone to severe complications of the disease?

Although the way in which 2019-nCoV affects people needs to be further investigated, older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease) seem to be more at risk of developing severe diseases.

     How much does the virus resist on the outer surfaces?

It is not known exactly how much the virus can withstand the outer surfaces, although preliminary information suggests that 2019- nCoV can survive for a few hours or even longer. Chlorine, alcohol, disinfectants can kill the virus.

     What is the difference between 2019-nCoV disease and a cold / flu?

People infected with 2019-nCoV or colds or flu sufferers usually develop respiratory symptoms such as cough, fever, nasal secretions. Even though many of the symptoms are similar, they are caused by different viruses. It is difficult to identify the disease solely on the basis of symptoms. That"s why lab tests are needed to confirm if anyone is infected with this new type of virus.

     How long is the incubation period for the virus?

The incubation period is the period between the time of infection and the onset of the clinical symptoms of the disease. Current estimates of the incubation period range from 1-12.5 days, with median estimates of 5-6 days. These estimates will be refined as more data becomes available.

     Can 2019-nCoV be contracted from an infected person, but with no symptoms?

According to recent reports, infected people may be infectious before they show significant symptoms. Based on currently available data, people with symptoms cause nCoV spread

     Can I get the virus from my pet?

Not. Currently, there is no evidence to support the fact that pets, such as cats, dogs can transmit this virus to humans.

Can 2019-nCoV be transmitted from man to man?

Yes. 2019-nCov causes respiratory disease and can be transmitted from person to person, usually after close contact with an infected person

     Who can contract this type of virus?

People living or traveling in an area where the 2019-nCoV virus is circulating may be at risk of infection.

Nurses who care for sick people are at higher risk and should protect themselves by using appropriate infection prevention and control procedures.

     10 behavioral elements to be followed:

1. Wash your hands often;

2. Avoid contact with people who are suspected of acute respiratory infections;

3.Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands;

4. Cover your mouth and nose if you sneeze or cough;

5. Do not take antiviral drugs or antibiotics unless prescribed by your doctor;

6. Clean all surfaces with chlorine or alcohol based disinfectants;

7. Use the protective mask only if you suspect that you are sick or if you are assisting the sick person;

8. "MADE in CHINA" products or packages received from China are not dangerous;

9. Call 112 if you have a fever, cough or have returned from China or quarantine areas in Europe for at least 14 days;

10. Pets do not transmit coronavirus.

     1. Wash your hands often

Hand washing and disinfection are decisive actions to prevent infection. Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If there is no soap and water, you can use a 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Hand washing removes the virus.

     2. Avoid contact with people who are suspected of having acute respiratory infections

Keep the distance of at least 1 meter between you and others, especially when they cough, sneeze or have a fever, because drops of saliva can transmit the virus from a close distance.

     3.Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands

The virus is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract, but can enter the body through the eyes, nose and mouth, so avoid touching if you have not washed your hands.

The hands come into contact with the surfaces contaminated by the virus spreading throughout the body.

     4. Cover your mouth and nose if you sneeze or cough

If you have acute respiratory infection, avoid approaching others, coughing with a covered mouth or a disposable napkin, wear a protective mask and wash your hands. If, when you cough, you cover your mouth with your hands, you can contaminate objects or people you come into contact with.

     5. Do not take antiviral medicines or antibiotics unless prescribed by your doctor

Currently, there is no scientific research showing that the use of antiviral drugs can prevent infection with the new coronavirus (Covid-19). Antibiotics work only against bacteria, not against the virus.

Covid-19 is a virus, so no antibiotic is used as a method of prevention or treatment unless a bacterial infection is found.

     6. Clean all surfaces with chlorine or alcohol based disinfectants

Chemical disinfectants that can kill the new coronavirus (Covid-19) are disinfectants containing chlorine, bleach, solvent, 75% ethanol, paracetic acid and chloroform. Your doctor and pharmacist will know what to recommend.

7. Wear a protective mask only if you suspect that you are sick or if you are assisting the sick

The World Health Organization recommends using the protective mask only if you suspect that you have been infected with the new coronavirus, and have symptoms of coughing, sneezing, or if you are assisting a person who is suspected of being infected with the new coronavirus. coronavirus. (A recent trip to China or the quarantine areas of Europe with respiratory symptoms).

USE OF THE PROTECTIVE MASK - Helps and limits the spread of the virus but must be used in conjunction with other hygiene measures including hand washing for at least 20 seconds. It is not necessary to use protective masks superimposed on each other.

     8. MADE products in CHINA or packages received from China are not dangerous

The World Health Organization said that people receiving packages from China are not at any risk of becoming infected with the new coronavirus because it does not live long on the surface. To date, there is no evidence that the products / objects produced in China can transmit the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

     9. Call 112 if you have a fever, cough or have returned from China or quarantine areas in Europe for at least 14 days

The incubation period of the new coronavirus is between 1 and 14 days. If you have returned from a trip to China or the quarantine areas in Europe for less than 14 days or have contacted people who have returned from China or the quarantine areas in Europe for less than 14 days and you have fever, cough, breathing difficulties, muscle aches and fatigue, call 112 to get the information you need. Wear a protective mask if you come in contact with others, use disposable napkins and wash your hands thoroughly.

     10. Pets do not transmit coronavirus

At this time there is no evidence that pets, dogs and cats can be infected by the virus. In any case, we should always wash our hands with soap and water after we come in contact with pets.

     How to use the mask

1. Before putting on a mask, wash your hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based antibacterial gel;

2. Cover your mouth and nose with the mask and make sure there are no gaps between the face and mask;

3. Avoid touching the mask during use. If you do this, wash your hands first with soap and water or alcohol-based antibacterial gel.

4. Replace the mask with a new one if it is dampened and do not reuse disposable masks;

5. To remove the mask - DO NOT touch the front of the mask, you can lower it from the back. Immediately dispose of the mask in the trash and wash your hands with soap and water or with antibacterial alcohol-based gel.
